Profile of QESS

The Queensland Earth Science Society Inc. (QESS Inc.) was established by geologists living and working in remote Central Queensland. It was developed so as to offer cross discipline development opportunities for geologists and Earth Scientists alike. The society offers development opportunities for its members in the form of lectures from academics and local professionals, as well as field excursions. The lecturers are from some of the leading scientists in their fields and offer a rare opportunity to gain first hand exposure to new research, while field excursions offer a unique experience to gain new skills and abilities. In addition, the society also holds regular social events.

Eight lectures are given per year, four of which are from local professionals and four from academic researchers from around Australia. This range gives a good foundation for both academic as well as industry interests. There are four field trips per year, and where possible, these compliment presentations. The field trips are an opportunity for members to put into practice what skills they have learned from presentations, and the combination of lectures and field excursions offers a well-rounded approach to learning.

Members of the QESS Inc. represent a broad range of Earth Science professionals from around Australia. They represent a broad range of companies including mining, contracting and consulting as well as a broad range of experience and expertise from graduate to Site Senior Executive.
